Justin Posey Motorsports is proud to be the exclusive distributor for the midwest of 220 Kart Shop's complete line of Liquid Speed Tire Treatments. Josh Philpott, owner of the 220 Kart Shop, has had great success with this line of chemicals after years of extensive research and development to create them. The LS line of chemicals has had wins at the Williamston Indoor Dirt Karting Championships in North Carolina, DuQuoin's MIKS Indoor dirt series promoted by Steve Nace, the famous Tri-State dirt series in North Carolina, as well as the VDKA and PDKS dirt karting series.
We chose to carry the complete line of Liquid Speed Tire Treatments for multiple reasons including its past success, incredible performance in our testing, and most of all the simplicity of the program. With only 3 treatments - LS1, LS2, and LS3 varying in aggression and level of bite produced, the racer will be able to produce a better final product with less confusion than other, more complex programs. We at JPM will be exclusively using this line of tire treatments for the 2010 season and will sell only the Liquid Speed Tire Treatments to our customers.
We are offering a Starter pack to help our customers get acquainted with this line of tire treatments that includes one quart each of the LS1, LS2, and the most aggressive LS3 (an LS4 is currently being developed) as well as a user guide that, while simple, will walk through exactly how to use the individual chemicals all for the limited time offer of $50.00 - a savings of nearly 20% over retail prices. For more information on our Liquid Speed Starter Pack, click the Liquid Speed logo above.
Many tracks allow an "open pipe," yet on any given night a walk through pits will reveal some karts with a muffled pipe and others with an unmuffled pipe. Ask 10 racers the question of which pipe is "better," and you'll get split responses. So, the question is which pipe should you run in an open pipe situation? The answer, like many answers in karting, is "it depends." A muffled versus unmuffled pipe is a trade off - the muffled pipe typically produces more bottom end horsepower, while the unmuffled "loop pipes" typically produce more top end in the upper ranges of RPM.
Now that we know the generalities, let's look at the data. On our dyno at JPM, a good muffled pipe will produce up to 1/4 more hosepower on the bottom end rpm ranges than an unmuffled, loop pipe. However, at the top end (i.e. above 6,000 rpm), that trend reverses. Our JPM Powerflow loop pipe will produce roughly 3/4 more horsepower than a muffled pipe on the top end - a ton on a dyno. On most dirt and pavement ovals, rpm drops typically average less than 500 rpm. Therefore, at "full song" race pace, an unmuffled or loop pipe typically produces a significant advantage over the muffled pipe. That said, the muffled pipe will typically outrun the unmuffled on restarts or anytime the engine has to go through the full power band - a rare occurrence on most ovals.
For us at JPM, in open pipe situations, we see the advantage to running our unmuffled, loop pipes over the muffled ones, being that we always seek to maximize performance under race conditions. Clutch set up and race prep of the engine can compensate for the loss of performance from the loop pipes on restarts, in our opinion. So, the next time you have the option of a muffled or unmuffled pipe, we suggest bolting on the loop pipe based solely on the data we've seen from the dyno.

The JPM team has had some success lately, especially at Lake Village Motor Speedway in Indiana. At the Cabin Fever, we didn't fare as well as we would have hoped - we set the tires up for a hot, fast track and typical of midwest weather this time of year we got a cool, wet racetrack that we just weren't able to get ahold of by the time qualifying came around. That said, we did pick up 3 wins that day with Kyle Erwin in gold, Brandon Askerin in Briggs Lite, and Bryan Cataldi, riding the JPM house Seraph, in Briggs Heavy.
Two weeks later at the Gold Plate $250 show at LVMS, Kyle Erwin was the big winner on JPM powered Seraph with Kwik Cutz Maxxis "pink" ht-3's and Liquid Speed Tire Prep. A big congratulations goes out to Kyle, Chris, Beth and Megan - we couldn't be prouder to be a part of your program. Also, Brandon Askerin on a JPM powered Icon also with Liquid Speed Tire Prep picked up a win in Briggs Lite and Mitch Dorsey was 3rd in Briggs Heavy to cap off a string of successes at Lake Village lately. Megan Erwin has had some very impressive runs in the JPM house Ultramax Excentrik - which we will take a closer look at in the next issue of the newsletter.
We want to thank all of our customers for their impressive runs at the beginning of the 2010 outdoor season and for allowing us at JPM to help in getting you to the front of the field.
